We are seeking an entrepreneurial and hands-on Finance Controller to establish and lead the financial operations of our startup B2B company in the consumable products industry. As the first finance hire, you will build the finance function from the ground up, oversee all financial activities, and play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial strategy. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with experience in startups or fast-paced environments, ready to roll up their sleeves and handle everything from banking relationships to payroll, human resources and tax compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Build and Lead Finance Operations:

  • Develop and implement financial processes, systems, and controls to support the company’s growth and operational needs.

  • Establish and maintain accounting procedures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP or relevant standards.

  • Provide financial leadership to the executive team, acting as a strategic partner in business decision-making.

 

Financial Management and Reporting:

  • Create and manage financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

  • Develop budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes to guide strategic decision-making.

  • Monitor financial performance and provide actionable insights to improve profitability and efficiency.

 

Banking and Cash Management:

  • Establish and manage relationships with banking partners to secure lines of credit, manage cash flow, and negotiate terms.

  • Oversee cash management processes, ensuring adequate liquidity to meet operational needs and growth objectives.

 

Payroll and Benefits Administration:

  • Manage payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely payments.

  • Develop HR policy to set up employee benefits and handle related financial processes.

 

Accounts Receivable and Collections:

  • Create and oversee the invoicing and collections process to ensure timely customer payments and minimize overdue accounts.

  • Implement credit policies and monitor customer creditworthiness.

 

Accounts Payable and Third-Party Payments:

  • Set up and manage accounts payable processes to ensure timely and accurate payments to suppliers and service providers.

  • Establish strong vendor relationships and optimize payment terms.

 

Tax Compliance and Filing:

  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including sales tax, income tax, and other business-related taxes.

  • Prepare and file tax returns, working with external tax advisors as needed.

  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and ensure adherence to tax policies.

 

Financial Planning and Strategy:

  • Build financial models to support strategic initiatives and fundraising efforts.

  • Evaluate and manage financial risks, identifying opportunities to improve margins and optimize resources.

  • Partner with leadership to establish KPIs and track business performance metrics.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).

  • 7+ years of experience in finance or accounting, with a preference for experience in startups or high-growth environments.

  • Proven ability to set up and scale financial processes and systems.

  • Experience with 3rd party wholesalers in the B2B business product industry.

  • Experience managing banking relationships, accounts receivable, and tax compliance.

  • Hands-on experience with payroll systems, financial software, and ERP tools.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Self-starter with excellent communication and leadership abilities.
