We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Merchandising to lead and develop our merchandising strategy for a B2B e-commerce startup in the business consumer products industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in merchandising, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to drive business results through data-driven decisions. As the Head of Merchandising, you will play a key role in shaping the product offering, optimizing inventory, and driving revenue growth through effective merchandising strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Merchandising Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive merchandising strategy that aligns with the company’s growth objectives, market trends, and customer needs.

  • Product Assortment: Curate and manage a compelling product assortment that caters to our B2B customers’ demands, while continuously evaluating market trends and competition.

  • Vendor Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to negotiate favorable terms, ensure product availability, and secure exclusive deals.

  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory planning and control, optimizing stock levels, minimizing out-of-stock situations, and reducing excess inventory.

  • Pricing & Promotions: Establish pricing strategies that are competitive and aligned with market trends, while developing promotional plans to drive sales and increase customer engagement.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Use sales analytics, customer insights, and market research to guide decision-making, product selections, and performance improvements.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with sales, marketing, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution of merchandising initiatives, product launches, and promotional campaigns.

  • E-commerce Optimization: Collaborate with the e-commerce team to enhance the digital merchandising experience, improving product visibility, customer navigation, and conversion rates.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and develop a small team of merchandising professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and performance excellence.

  • Trend Forecasting: Stay ahead of market trends, consumer preferences, and industry innovations to ensure the company remains competitive and relevant in the marketplace.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in merchandising, with a focus on e-commerce, retail, or consumer products.

  • Existing relationships with B2B 3rd party partners.  ie SP Richards, Essendant, EVO, Antalis etc.

  • Experience in the B2B sector is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, inventory control, and supply chain operations.

  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong vendor relationships.

  • Proficiency in data analytics and merchandising software/tools.

  • Strong leadership and team management experience.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a strategic and analytical approach to problem-solving.
